Immaculate Conception Parish has responded to the Church's call to place adult faith formation at the helm of a significant parish New Evangelization effort.

In the document "Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us:  A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States," our Bishops call for Adult Faith Formation to be the central task in a strong renewed formation effort.  The document states,  "The Church's pastoral ministry exists to sustain the work of the Gospel.  One way it does this is by nourishing and strengthening lay men and women in their calling and identity as people of faith, as contributors to the life and work of the Church, and as disciples whose mission is to the world to grow in discipleship throughout life, all believers need and are called to build vibrant parish communities of faith and service. Such communities cannot exist without a strong, complete and systematic catechesis for all its members.  By 'complete and systematic' we mean a catechesis that nurtures a profound, lifelong conversion for the whole person and sets forth a comprehensive, contemporary synthesis of the faith, as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church." (Secs. 4 and 5)

The Bishops advise that the parish should appoint an Adult Faith Formation leader who will work with other pastoral leadership to implement a systematic plan of adult faith formation..  "Each parish will designate an adult faith formation leader-authorized by the Pastor and personally involved in ongoing formation-to assure primary responsibility to implement the ministry of adult faith formation.  The Bishops further advise that each parish  form an Adult Faith Formation Team. They state, "The parish will have a core team of parishioners committed to and responsible for implementing the parish vision and plan for adult faith formation.  They found that "providing effective, diverse adult faith formation opportunities is a demanding responsibility requiring the collaborative efforts of a well trained, coordinated team of parishioners, "a nucleus of mature Christians, initiated into the faith."  (Sec.142)

Under the initiative of Monsignor Brennan and the direction of Patricia Jannuzzi, Immaculate Conception Parish has formed a team which assists in the implementation of our adult faith formation programs.  Each year the team is expanded to include additional committed parishioners.  The team meets once a week, on Monday and Tuesday evenings for Eucharistic prayer, scriptural and catechetical formation and a broad discussion about our AFF structure, offerings and needs.
