Ministry of Mothers Sharing

Ten years ago a group of mothers met in the "upper room" of the Parish Center to pray, to reflect on common experiences of motherhood, share stories, and to realize more fully the sacredness of motherhood.  Since that time, over fifteen other groups of moms have joined to share in the same experience.

While our ministry of motherhood brings us our sheerest joy, it requires many sacrifices.  As most of our time and energy is consumed by ministering to others, first and foremost, the myriad of needs of our children, there is a risk that we can be consumed, emptied and depleted.  The Ministry of Moms Sharing recognizes the need to be renewed in the Lord as vividly expressed in the Gospel of Matthew (11:28-29): "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls".  Those who minister need to be ministered to.  It is this realization that led to the formation and ongoing success of these groups.

New moms and seasoned moms alike share in this extraordinary vocation and yet it is our Catholic faith that brings this understanding to a deeper level.  By meeting with other moms who desire this deeper appreciation of motherhood, a community of faith is formed.  Groups of eight to fifteen women meet weekly for approximately nine sessions.  Throughout the years there have been different topics and themes of these groups all focusing on our spirituality of motherhood.  It is a great opportunity to pray, share, be affirmed, learn and grow with other mothers from our parish family.

Volunteer Testimonials:

"I thought I was the only “good mother”  mother who raised her voice to her toddler out of anger. I didn’t feel like such a good mother when I got frustrated with my beautiful child and I felt like I was in a world by myself. My own mother suggested I try the Moms group as a way to understand I wasn’t alone in my feelings.  About a dozen mothers of various ages and stages met once a week for six weeks in an intimate and unthreatening environment to talk, ponder and pray about so many issues affecting their spirituality and their lives as mothers. This has been a  life changing 10 year journey for me as the Moms Ministry continues to change and evolve with the flow of my own motherhood." - Melissa Beeck

"I have participated in several MOMS group sessions, and always find them very worthwhile and enjoyable. They are a great opportunity to connect with other moms who can relate to you and have experienced many of the same joys and trials. As moms, we often put our own needs last while caring for our family and others, and don't take time for ourselves. The MOMS group provides a great way to schedule a little time to renew ourselves spiritually in an informal small group setting. Melissa is an inspirational facilitator who ensures that everyone enjoys the time together, whether they are more comfortable sharing or just listening to others in the group. Hope you can join us." - Kathy Myers

The children were growing tired of their play.  They wanted to learn a new game.  "Let each seek out the most loveliest word in the whole world.  When father comes home, he will decide who has found it." The noisy little boys and girls grow quite, and ponder over what the most beautiful word could be.  One writes in one corner, the other in another corner, so that they cannot look at other's bits of paper.  After supper the great decision is made.  The father announces:  "The loveliest word in the world is mother". - Cardinal Josef Mindszenty
