“When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” Acts 2:1-4
Confirmation empowers us through the gift of the Spirit to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and courageous witnesses to the Good News of salvation. Saint Ambrose invites us to “Recall then that you have received the spiritual seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God’s presence. Guard what you have received. God the Father has marked you with His sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your hearts.”
All Catholics should receive this special gift. Confirmation is celebrated in the Fall each year for children and at the Easter Vigil or during the Easter Season for Adults.
